Hawzah News Agency- Addressing a gathering of Pakistani intellectuals, university presidents, and faculty members at the Iranian Embassy in Islamabad, the ambassador outlined Iran's consistent and principled approach to regional developments and external pressure.
A History of Resistance Against Coercive Diplomacy
Ambassador Amiri-Moghadam underscored Iran's defensive posture, stating, "Iran has never initiated war, nor will it enter negotiations under threat and pressure. It only accepts equal dialogue based on mutual respect."
Reflecting on decades of confrontation with the United States, he noted a recurring pattern: "Every US president who has come to power has initially spoken the language of threat and war with Iran, but after failure, has turned to claims of negotiation—negotiations that were, in reality, not dialogue but an effort to impose unilateral demands."
He cited the experience of the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) negotiations with the P5+1 group, highlighting that the Trump administration's unilateral withdrawal "demonstrated that Washington does not abide by its commitments. This behavior revealed the true nature of America's pressure and deception policy toward the Islamic Republic of Iran."
The ambassador reiterated Iran's consistent openness to dialogue, but only under fair conditions. "The Islamic Republic of Iran has always welcomed dialogue, but this dialogue only makes sense under equal conditions, free from pressure, threats, and military mobilization. Iran will never negotiate under pressure," he asserted.
Foreign Plots to Exploit Economic Grievances
Turning to recent domestic developments in Iran, Ambassador Amiri-Moghadam provided context on economic reforms, including the removal of subsidized currency, which were aimed at rectifying systemic corruption and mafia-like structures that had plagued the previous system. He acknowledged these necessary measures carried psychological and inflationary burdens that led to public economic protests.
"The protests were initially peaceful, and the government and the system supported the people's economic demands," he stated. "However, with the entry of foreign actors, particularly the United States and the Zionist regime, efforts were made to steer this atmosphere toward insecurity and sedition."
He detailed the role of these foreign powers, referencing public statements by US officials and their media propaganda campaigns. "There is substantial evidence and documentation showing that the US and the Zionist regime tried to abuse the economic demands of the Iranian people to execute a scenario of destabilization."
"This interference," he emphasized, "was not out of sympathy for the Iranian people, but with the goal of creating chaos, insecurity, and paving the way for increased external pressure and intervention."
While noting that material damages incurred are reparable, the ambassador stated that the loss of life was "a bitter and irreparable tragedy."
National Resilience and Failed Isolation Campaigns
Ambassador Amiri-Moghadam highlighted the Iranian people's decisive response once the true nature of the unrest became clear. "After the seditious nature of the riots was revealed, the people of Iran, with their broad presence, declared their opposition to insecurity and chaos and demonstrated their support for the country's stability and security."
He also pointed to the failure of US-led efforts to diplomatically isolate Iran on the international stage. "Even Washington's attempts to pass resolutions against Iran in international forums were opposed by countries including Pakistan, which signifies the failure of the project to isolate Iran."
Concluding his remarks, the ambassador reaffirmed Iran's core position: "Iran seeks peace, stability, and dialogue in the region, but not from a position of weakness or under pressure. It is based on mutual respect and equal rights."
The event was jointly organized by the Iranian Embassy and the Cultural Consultancy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Islamabad.
